Volume Four continues the ongoing collaboration between members of Yawning Man and Fu Manchu, captured during an extended studio session in Joshua Tree in April 2024. The project thrives on improvisation and atmosphere, allowing the musicians to stretch out into spacious instrumental territory shaped by desert rock textures and psychedelic flow.

One of the central pieces, “Water Ritual,” emerged during a five-hour jam at Gatos Trail Studios, where guitarist Bob Balch experimented with a newly acquired “Fable” delay pedal. During mixing, parts of the track were given a distinct 70s-style dub echo treatment using an Echoplex, adding an unusual rhythmic depth to the drifting instrumental landscape.

The result is a two-part journey that captures the relaxed yet focused energy of musicians deeply rooted in the desert rock tradition.
