Re-Issue of 'Plastic Green Head' (1995), the sixth album by the American doom metal band Trouble!

Chicago doom lords Trouble spend the metal nadir of the mid-'90s cleaning house and coming back to earth after two records of major label hell. The self-titled album and Manic Frustration are considered some of the band's best work, but shortly thereafter, the band was looking to clean house. With an appropriately high degree of faith in their own capabilities, the band traveled to California to record their next album, all without a record deal, self-financing the sessions, figuring they could own the masters and license out the album to interested parties, of which there was an ample supply. Plastic Green Head, first issue in the UK in 1995 and then America the following year, turned out to be a blasting package. Harder hitting and more rhythmic that Manic Frustration, with bigger drums, molten guitars and a palpable sense of anger, the album kicked off with the classic title track, other highlights including the old school 'Opium-Eater" slamming Sabbath-like sledge "Another Day" and brisk headbanger "Below Me." "Plastic Green Head is more aggressive than any of them," reflects vocalist Eric Wagner. "A little more pissed off. I'm directing certain songs at certain people. It was just what was happening at the time, and that's every record. It's who I am and what I've seen at that particular time. So the business shit that was happening came out in some of the lyrics. Plus people close to me dying - there's a couple tunes on there for that, "Another Day" and "Requiem." "Opium Eater" was from a book by Charles Baudelaire called Artificial Paradise, a chapter heading, and I thought it fit that song right away, done." Case closed, power proven - Trouble had created another imposing collection of doom classics, Plastic Green Head upholding the band's high standards. Little did we know that it would be more than a decade before Trouble would dish new doom once again.
