The Grotesque Within marks a new threshold for Oreyeon — their first fully self-produced work, captured in the winter of 2025 between the Outside Inside Studio in Treviso and their own home setup. The album embraces a raw, unvarnished heaviness, shaped by an atmosphere that echoes the unsettling visions of Thomas Ligotti. Rather than leaning on traditional horror tropes, the record inhabits that strange borderland where the absurd and the horrific melt into everyday experience. Oreyeon have been carving their path since forming in northern Italy in 2014, born from musicians long active in the region’s heavy underground. Their early material drew deeply from ’70s hard-rock foundations and the gravity of doom and stoner metal, guided by towering riffs, thick low-end and melodic vocal lines. Over the years their sound has grown more textural and intricate, expanding into progressive and psychedelic territory without abandoning the weight at their core. Through each record the band has shifted their focus, sharpening dynamics, layering harmonies and exploring more adventurous structures.
With The Grotesque Within, Oreyeon channel everything learned across that evolution into something darker, more deliberate and more immersive. The result is an album that traces the edges of heavy rock, doom and progressive psychedelia while moving with the narrative flow of a fever dream.
