The Paris-based trio Margarita return with their debut full-length Abysses of Melancholia.
Formed in 2022 by Karen Verdier-Désérable, Julie Appéré, and Julie Picard, the band draws from doom, sludge, heavy psych, and shoegaze, combining these influences into slow, heavy songs. After releasing their self-titled EP in 2023, Margarita have played shows across France, Belgium, and Switzerland.
For their first full-length, the trio have expanded their guitar, bass, and drums setup with synths and electronic percussion. Across five tracks, Abysses of Melancholia focuses on memory, anger, loss, absence, and the marks left by the past.
“Blood Incantation” deals with pain and expression, while “Melting Days” takes a hazier and more melancholic approach to loss. “Not a Mother” addresses imposed roles and inherited expectations, while “Abyssal Pain” explores violence, resentment, and destruction. The album concludes with “Better Off Alone?”, turning towards solitude and wounds left unspoken.
