Description

The Grease Ladder is the thirteenth album by English band Black Market Karma. The group combines neo-psychedelia, psychedelic rock, psychedelic pop and alternative rock into a colourful, exuberant sound, led by bandleader and multi-instrumentalist Stanley Belton. The band describes the album as a blend of the more ‘spacy’ side of psychedelia with the soulful revival of classic Motown, while the lyrics draw on the direct romance and emotional clarity of 1950s rock ’n’ roll love songs.

Released in 2026, The Grease Ladder presents Black Market Karma’s distinctive approach in a concise LP format, focusing on atmosphere, ambience and melodic hooks rather than extended experimentation. Guitars, organs and other layered instrumentation are shaped by thick, saturated textures that give the album a warm, immersive feel, while the songwriting remains accessible and uplifting, often playful but emotionally sincere. As a whole, the album reinforces the band’s reputation for combining retro-psych aesthetics with modern sensibilities, offering a distinctive contribution to contemporary psychedelic and alternative rock.
