San Diego trio Aunt Cynthia’s Cabin blends dark psych pop with desert rock grit and traces of vintage surf. Formed by Brennan Justice (guitar, vocals), Anthony DeFreitas (bass, vocals) and Jeremy Luvaas (drums, percussion), the band grew out of a surf rock project and developed its sound through home recordings in a San Diego garage, using basic gear and heavy doses of analog and digital reverb.

Their early releases — including the EPs Cabin Fever and Mud Room — established a lo-fi, raw aesthetic built on hypnotic riffs, surf-tinged guitar lines and heavy rhythmic drive. The approach draws clear lines to the hazy psych of Dead Meadow, the dark groove-based heaviness of All Them Witches, and the twang and motion of classic surf rock in the spirit of The Ventures, while keeping a rough, garage-recorded edge.

Mud Room No. 13 continues that direction with a sound shaped by minimal recording setups and an emphasis on immediacy over polished production — closer to a late-night desert drive than a studio-perfect recording.
