Two years after its initial release, Under Acid Hoof returns as a carefully curated repress — a record that quickly established Acid Mammoth as one of the most convincing voices in contemporary doom. Rooted in towering Sabbath worship but driven by a distinctly massive low-end and hypnotic pacing, the album moves with the weight of something ancient and unstoppable.
The core of Under Acid Hoof lies in its slow-burning riff architecture and monolithic groove, where fuzz-soaked guitars and ritualistic rhythms create a sense of forward momentum without haste. Tracks like “Jack the Riffer” and the title piece stretch time, letting repetition, density and atmosphere do the heavy lifting. This repress expands the original journey with “Far Harad”, an instrumental recorded during the same sessions — a pure doom vignette inspired by colossal, advancing forces — and a live version of “White Hag”, capturing the band’s raw ceremonial energy in a post-lockdown Temple Athens performance.
Formed in Athens, Acid Mammoth channel doom metal as something both familial and ritualistic. Their sound is slow, deliberate and deeply rooted in tradition, yet unmistakably their own — heavy without excess, epic without theatrics. Under Acid Hoof remains a defining statement: patient, crushing and immersive from start to finish.
